Roland Schatz

Roland Schatz

President

Roland brings over 20 years of experience in sales, business development, and management to the team. Prior to StoreWest, he spent a decade in private equity, and was formerly a VP with one of North America’s largest real estate private equity firms with assets in the billions. In this role, Roland managed a division with over 30 employees and annual sales of $100M across three provinces. As President of the StoreWest Group of Companies (SWGC), Roland oversees all operations and finance for the various companies under the StoreWest umbrella. Cumulatively this represents 8 distinct companies employing roughly 50 people at any given time. In addition, Roland acts as Director and President for the 10-15 development & acquisition LPs currently associated with the SWGC. Roland is also one of the founders of, and a member of the Investment Committee for, the ICM Bluebird Canadian Self Storage Fund. Since helping to found StoreWest in 2016, Roland has overseen growth within the SWGC to over $250M in AUM with over $15M in revenue across all business units including storage and wash operations. As StoreWest continues to grow, Roland will be focused on defining our strategy to manage this growth along with fostering the partnerships needed to support and enable it.
Steve Elliott

Steve Elliott

VP Investments

Steve brings over 15 years of experience in finance and business development in the private capital markets. As Vice President of Investment, Steve is focused on equity procurement, financing, and investor relations for the StoreWest Group of Companies. Previous to his role with StoreWest, Steve was also the VP of Business Development for Robson Financial based out of Vancouver. Robson Financial is part of the Hillcore Group of companies with approximately $4.5billion AUM. Prior to joining Hillcore, Steve was VP of the Capita Funds Asset Management platform with approximately $800 million AUM. Steve is currently working on his Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Designation and has completed the Petroleum Joint Venture Analyst Designation and Chartered Investment Management Designation.
Jaimie Young

Jaimie Young

VP Finance & Operations

Jaimie is an accomplished professional with over 25 years of diverse experience in the fields of finance, business development, operations, retail, consumer packaged goods, and franchise development. With a strong educational background that includes a CPA and CMA designation, Jaimie brings a unique blend of financial expertise and business acumen to the table. Jaimie has extensive experience in Human Resources, Information technology, acquisitions and disposals, location selection, and construction. He has a deep understanding of business operations, financial management, and strategic planning. Jaimie has worked with both large corporations and small businesses to develop and execute successful growth strategies. Jaimie is an experienced business development professional with a passion for helping entrepreneurs achieve their dreams of business. When Jaimie is not in the office, he enjoys spending time on the golf course, coaching hockey and challenging the slopes.
Layne Gardner

Layne Gardner

VP Real Estate

Layne brings over two decades of experience in the Real Estate Investment and Development field. His main areas of expertise are the acquisition, planning, and structuring of investment strategies for residential, commercial and industrial real estate assets. Layne has been an integral member of the management team with Pacific Investments & Development Ltd for over 25 years. Layne has assisted in the management of real estate projects ranging from 20 acres to 1000 acres and valued at over $100 million. Over the course of his career he has raised more than $250 million in private investment across 22 real estate projects. Layne oversees all new procurement opportunities for StoreWest. His contacts within the real estate community, combined with experience in valuation, permitting, and acquisition, provide StoreWest with the opportunity to continually source new and exciting opportunities.
Jeff Petrick

Jeff Petrick

Director of Real Estate

Jeff has over 20 years of experience as a communications director, leading real estate teams in investment, development and deal completion phases of the real estate cycle. Real estate development projects have ranged from 3 – 5 acre commercial developments, to 1,000 acre industrial syndications, to new communities in the fringe areas of Calgary through Area Structure Plans, Land Use/ Outline Plan through the DP/ BP process. More recently, due diligence/ underwriting for both developed-property acquisition and entitlements supporting bare land purchases for development properties have been the focus. Prior to his real estate career, Jeff owned and operated a creative agency, providing for the sales, marketing and advertising goals of real estate and resort developers in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Central America. Jeff brings an extensive communications toolset to help manage the Storewest development team’s project pipeline, including technology, publishing, land planning, graphic design, entitlements, investor relations and deal underwriting for real estate acquisitions and property sales.
Gerard Williams

Gerard Williams

Development Project Manager

Gerard has joined the StoreWest team in August of 2023 after 23 years of owning his own General Contracting business doing residential and commercial developments. He brings experience in precast, pre engineered and conventional building systems. His training as a carpenter and extensive work experience with business and life coaches, completed training in leadership and development brings great trade/vendor relationship and problems solving skills both on site and off site challenges. Gerard’s experience broadens our development team with additional support and construction experience and feedback to enable efficient, practical designs for our builds and investors. Gerard loves to be challenged and tasked with an upbeat and busy project portfolio enabling multitasking and a large work load. Learning is a large part of Gerard’s approach to any situation as he continues his education and is in progress of doing his PMP designation and in learning the StoreWest business and development model. As StoreWest grows Gerard will be excited to grow within the team and build strong vendor and trade relationships to support StoreWest’s future projects.
Scott Morrison

Scott Morrison

Chief Development Officer

Scott brings a broad spectrum of expertise to the StoreWest Group. Having significant experience in the world of private equity as well as project management and operational development management, his well-rounded acumen and results driven management style have proven invaluable as leader within the organization. In his role as Chief Development Officer, Scott helms the planning, design and construction of all StoreWest projects – 18 to date - with an expanding list on the horizon. Scott leads a team of veteran development and project management professionals within StoreWest, as well as overseeing and growing StoreWest’s relationships with seasoned builders, architects, engineers and contractors across Canada. Prior to StoreWest, Scott was Vice President of Business Development with Sussex Retirement Living. Sussex is a North American retirement living residence developer with a number of seniors focused and long-term care properties located in Canada and the US. Previous to Sussex, Scott was the President and Managing Partner of i9 Capital Consulting. Scott and team were acknowledged as a trusted resource for sales and marketing solutions for organizations across Canada in various industries including private capital (Issuers, Registered Dealers and Portfolio Managers), the energy sector, agricultural sector, legal and accounting sectors. Scott’s strong understanding of the private capital markets, comes from over 18 years of experience in various capacities within the private equity world. Before his tenure in the private capital markets, Scott gained a wealth of project management and development operational experience as a development manager and project manager in the telecom industry – most notably with Telus, where he added further to his expertise in greenfield development, infrastructure project management and facilities expansion.
Peter O'Brien

Peter O'Brien

Director of Development

Peter joined the StoreWest team in February of 2022 after having spent fifteen years building healthcare facilities in both the public and private sectors. His most recent experience was in the world of private equity funded long term care development. Prior to his healthcare experience Peter spent almost twenty years in the retail sector starting as a consulting project manager building commercial shopping centers for private developers and migrating to managing the development of grocery stores for one of Canada’s largest grocery chains. This background has given him a firm understanding of development processes and how to manage them through best practice design, value engineering, and project delivery. Peter is driven to provide the best possible project value possible to all of the StoreWest developed projects. Peter carries his PMP designation and is a Certified Construction Contract Administrator through Construction Specifications Canada. He has an Associate in Technical Education degree and a Bachelor of Educations from St. Mary’s University in Halifax N.S.

Controller

A result driven leader with over 15 years experience in operational management, leading highly engaged and productive team members, in a complex technical environment. Established cost saving initiatives and best practices through continuous improvement and project management. Driving change effectively by leading by example and in collaboration with all key stakeholders. Known for tackling tough issues and developing practical solutions to new challenges. A keen customer focus, strong work ethic and a reputation as a top performer.
